GOLDSBORO — Three local high schools — Clinton, Midway, and Hobbton — performed exceptionally well at the Goldsboro YMCA Bryan Olympic Pool. Clinton Men and Women won the meet beating nine teams in the process.

Two Clinton High School women’s relay teams and the Midway High School women’s relay teams finished in the top 10. Clinton dominated, winning both the 200 yard medley relay with a time of 2:15.67 swum by Elizabeth Tsao, Darby Taylor, Lillie Turlington (captain), and Lexi Valenti (captain). Trading Lexi for Gracin Palmer in the 200 yard freestyle relay the team handily won by half a length at 1:54.88. In the first meet of the season these relays have qualified for the State Championship meet.

Hobbton only had one swimmer representing their team last year. This year senior captain Marcy McLamb has a full team and their relay made school history competing in the 200 yard freestyle relay for the first time. In addition to Marcy, the team consists of Ashlyn Johnson, Sarah Price and Kaylee Matthews.

The Clinton Men won the 200 and 400 Freestyle relays, finished second in the 200 medley relay (1:40.12 – 3:51.82 - 1:56.12). All three relays also qualified for the State Championships their first race out. Clinton’s relay team included Casey Yang (captain), Ryan Taylor (captain), Weston Locklear, Freddy Bath, and Alex Purcell. Midway men finished 2nd in the 200 Freestyle relay swum by team captain Daniel Core, Alex Boggs, Andrew Johnson, and Justin Jones.

Savannah Brinkley – Midway – 200 yd. Freestyle and 100 Backstroke – 2:50.75 & 1:21.23

Elizabeth Tsao – Clinton – 100 yd. Butterfly – 1;27.89

Mamie, Lillie, Daniel, Ryan, Freddie, and Casey have all qualified for State Championships in their individual events as well.
