Clinton drug arrests
Clinton Police officers netted two substantial drug stops on McKoy Street within two hours each other late Tuesday night.
At 9:31 p.m. officers pulled over a 1999 Chevy Suburban for an expired tag violation. According to reports, when officer J. Kittrell approached the vehicle, he smelled the “strong odor of marijuana” coming from inside.
He then asked the driver if there was any marijuana in the vehicle to which the female driver gave no response. Kittrell asked the driver again and suggested that she give him the narcotics rather than have him search the vehicle.
“She then reached in her shirt pocket and handed me a paper containing the marijuana,” reported Kittrell.
Seven grams of marijuana was in the folded paper.
The driver, Natasha Letise Monk, 25, of 117 Lee St., Clinton was given a citation for simple possession of a Scheduled VI controlled substance and expired registration plates.
Monk has a trial date of May 6.
A little over two hours later, police pulled over a 1994 Ford Taurus at McKoy Street during a routine traffic stop, only to find two grams of cocaine and three grams of marijuana.
According to reports, police arrested Courtney Nicole Bishop, 27, of 2995 Basstown Road, Clinton and charged her with possession of a Schedule II controlled substance, a felony, and possession of a Schedule VI controlled substance, a misdemeanor.
Bishop was taken to the Sampson County Detention Center and given a $2,500 bond. She has a trial date of March 20.
