According to reports from the N.C. Highway Patrol office, Scotty O’Neil Carter, 36, of Cartertown Road in Clinton, was killed at 1:16 a.m. Thursday when he walked into the path of an oncoming pick-up truck driven by Alvin Woodrow Herring, III.
Reports show that Herring, of H.B. Lewis Road, Clinton, was driving southbound on U.S. 701 in a Murphy-Brown pick-up with two passengers, Richard Michael McAllister, of Harrells, and Bobby Dean Hammonds, of Clinton, when Carter, who was on foot and heading north on 701, stepped in front of the vehicle and was killed instantly.
Herring and McAllister were not hurt in the collision; Hammonds suffered minor injuries.
The incident has been ruled as an ‘accident’ and no charges were filed.
