Sunday wasn’t such a good day for local residents wanted for failing to appear in court on child support issues or those failing to comply with child support mandates.

In all, sheriff’s officials said, 20 Sampson residents were taken into custody regarding child support cases, many in Sampson, but some wanted in surrounding counties like Wayne, New Hanover, Duplin and Harnett.

“We took Sunday to try to catch up on some of those that were dangling,” sheriff Jimmy Thornton said Tuesday. “It takes u a lot of our time, that’s for sure, so we designated Sunday to tie some of the loose ends.”

Deputies hit the streets at 6 a.m. Sunday and completed their designated task somewhere around midnight. In all, 22 law enforcement officers were called in to assist with the task.

Although warrants were served on a number of residents, not all had been processed by press time, but Thornton said updated information would be provided later.

“There’s no question, there’s a lot of these out there,” the sheriff stressed. “That’s why we designated Sunday as a day to try to wrap some of these up. We got quite a few.”

Among those arrested were:

• Roberto Wilson Medina-Morales, 29, 6994 Hobbton Hwy., Clinton, failure to appear on child support charges. Bond was set at $648; court date Jan. 15;

• Henri Parker, 47, 1102 Phillips St., failure to appear (FTA), child support. Bond $600; court date Jan. 22;

• Gary Bernard Ashley, 49, 603 Sampson St., Clinton, FTA child support. Bond $500; court date Jan. 15

• Maurice Hart Steer Jr., 25, 785 H.B. Lewis Road, failure to comply, child support. Bond $1,000; court date Jan. 15;

• Agustin Sanchez Calvillo, 29, 325 Ezzell Road, FTA child support. Bond $4,000 and $2,000, respectively. No court date listed;

• J. Talmadge Spell, 41, 107 E. Pleasant St., Roseboro, FTA child support. Bond $150; court date Jan. 15;

• Maynard T. Kea, 26, 151 Tornado Lane, Clinton, failure to comply, child support. Bond $500; court date Jan. 3;

• Melissa Ann Rich, 32, 2551 Whitewoods Road, Salemburg, FTA child support. Bond $500; court date Jan. 15;

• John Troy Moore, 23, 380 Moore Henry Lane, Clinton, FTA child support. Bond $2,500; court date Jan. 15;

• Thomas Glenn Blue, 52, 164 Fred Tew Road, Dunn, failure to comply, child support. Bond $1,000; court date Jan. 15;
