Students at L.C. Kerr School have participated in a Multicultural Awareness event learning about Christmas traditions around the world. Teachers and students decorated classroom doors throughout the campus highlighting different countries. Students were able to not only learn about the country they chose but also visit other classrooms to learn about many different cultures. Here are just a few of the many countries that were spotlighted.

Christmas in New Zealand:

Christmas is celebrated with parades and camping outdoors since it is summertime in the country of New Zealand. People wish each other a ‘Meri Kirihimete’ as they exchange gifts. Pictured here are Ms. Boone’s first grade students LaMya Underwood, Najim Ali, Ava Williford, and Ella Jimenez.

Christmas in China:

“Sheng Dan Kuai Le” from China. Mrs. Sandra Cannady’s class has been able to skype with Mr. Bill Strickand, Mrs. Cannady’s father-in-law, who works in China. They have learned that the Chinese gift giving tradition in China includes an apple on Christmas Eve. Decorating plastic Christmas trees with paper chains and lanterns is also popular. Pictured are kindergarten students: Tomas Allen, Ayron Barksdale, Sidney Boone, Joshua Cardoza Marronquin, Michala Coulter, Logan Cox, Jade Emanuel, Evan Gillespie, Trezhaun Harris, Gannon Herring, Lydia Jackson, Jose Jimenez, Dylan Owens, Elisabeth Rivera, Cilia Salgado, Ja’Niyah Simmons, Veronica Grace Tart, Jocelin Trejo-Marin, Damarion Vann, Miguel Vasquez-Pecina, and Lilly Williams.

Christmas in Italy:

Flying on her broom giving out toys is what the legend of La Befana is all about in Italy. Children from Ms. Grabner’s kindergarten class wish you a “Buon Natale”. Pictured are Peyton Gomez, Jamiyah Joyner, Tristan Powell, and Lilybeth Sanchez.

Christmas in Hawaii:

Aloha and Mele Kalikimaka from the islands of Hawaii. Ms. Lauren Faison’s preschoolers enjoyed a Christmas luau with their teachers. Students are: Carlos Abrego, Bobby Copeland, Jonathan Thomas Faison, Joshua Moore, Jose Santos, Tanner Simmons, Keyla Serrano, Shamar Sutton, and Sintnia Turcios.

Christmas in Bahamas:

Finding Santa on the white sandy beaches of the Bahamas was fun for Ms. Jenna St. Pierre’s class. People in the Bahamas say “Merry Christmas or Happy Holidays”. Friendly smiles from Mahayla Bell, Rebeca Gomez, Will Mercer, Christopher Avila Gomez, and Jazlyn Jackson.

Christmas in Germany:

Mrs. Regina Taylor’s first grade students found Christmas cheer in Germany where they greet each other with “Froehliche Weinachten”. Santa, known as St. Nicholas, fills the shoes of all good kids with treats. Students are: Jaffrey Graham, Alexis Serrano Avellaneda, and Erick Turcio Oliva.

Christmas at the North Pole:

Everyone should visit the North Pole at Christmas! Ms. Amy McMahon’s first grade students took the Polar Express around the world. Their final stop was the North Pole in hopes to see Santa. Students in Ms. McMahon’s class are: Zoie Avery, Zavion Boone, Chandler Childress, Christopher Cruz-Cedillos, Yuridia Escobar Lopez, Gil Escobar-Cardona, Tatiana Gonzalez, Nasir Hooks, Elizabeth Jackson, Jaheim Morrisey, Tristan Morrisey, JayLah Newsome, Jordan Oates, Alez Perez-Diaz, Auston Pugh, Javarus Robinson, Valeria Rosado Aviles, Bianca Serrano, Emma Stone, and Jordan Young.
