Union guard Nadua McKinze scored 25 points Thursday night. Pender as a team scored 24. The Spartans won the game handily, 60-24.
It was the Lady Spartans’ third win of the season, and their most impressive. Their defensive pressure rattled the Patriots early, and this continued throughout the evening. The Spartans led 16-3 after the first quarter, and increased their lead to 31-10 by the end of the first half.
The Lady Spartans never let up, staying aggressive, and continuing to score the basketball.
As mentioned earlier, McKinze had a big night.she knocked down 3-7 three-point field goal attempts, and went on to score a game high 25 points. She also had 5 steals on the evening. Eva Long had 14 points and 4 assists, and Lauren Preddy had 11 points and 8 steals to round out the top performers for Union.
Coach English of Union said he was very proud of the effort his team showed. He said McKinze was obviously huge for them, and did a great job leading the team like you would expect from a senior.
“We have to continue to get better, but I am pleased with our defensive intensity and our overall effort today” concluded Coach English.
The Lady Spartans improve to 3-5 on the season.
