MOUNT OLIVE — The North Carolina Foundation for Christian Ministries has selected the Rev. Ricky Warren of Dunn to serve as its first executive director. The unanimous decision was made at the October 2012 meeting of the foundation Board of Directors. Warren began working in the full-time position Jan. 1.
In the fall of 2010, Dr. W. Burkett Raper, president Emeritus of Mount Olive College and founding president of the foundation, recruited Warren to serve an internship with the foundation as a part of his Master of Divinity degree from Campbell University. Dr. Raper has since passed away, but board chairman Don Lassiter, said, “The members of the foundation’s Board of Directors believe Dr. Raper hoped Ricky would one day be elected to carry on the work he had begun. The board is pleased to fulfill that vision. We feel this is just one of the foundation’s accomplishments of which Dr. Raper would be very proud.”
Warren said, “I am humbled by this honor, but I am excited about the potential for lasting good that can be accomplished. I look forward to working alongside generous, good-natured people to assist them in fulfilling their personal wishes and goals concerning charitable giving.”
Warren resigned as the pastor of Lee’s Chapel Original Free Will Baptist Church near, where he served for nearly 10 years, to devote all of his attention to the new position. He will work with potential donors to fulfill the foundation’s mission of communicating the Christian faith by serving as a medium for charitable and educational purposes. He will attend meetings, conferences, and conventions as the foundation’s representative. He will render ministerial services when needed and explain to churches the opportunities that are available for endowments to fund youth activities, cemetery maintenance, memorial funds, scholarships, and other charitable purposes. He will also continue to chair the foundation’s Scholarship Committee which annually awards thousands of dollars to assist students preparing to serve in the ministry.
The foundation was started in 2005 by Dr. Raper as the fulfillment of his vision to provide a means of strengthening the advancement of the Christian faith by providing a way to sustain charitable giving to Christian ministries through the management of endowment investments that can be utilized by anyone wishing to leave a lasting legacy. The foundation’s dedication to its mission is summed up in its slogan, “Helping good people do good things.”
The North Carolina Foundation for Christian Ministries is a 501 (c) (3) non-profit Christian charitable organization and is an Affiliated Ministry of the Convention of Original Free Will Baptist headquartered in Ayden, North Carolina.
