Four suspected would-be robbers were stopped before they had a chance to break into a Plain View residence early Sunday morning, and now find themselves jailed on multiple felonies.
The homeowner is credited with thwarting the robbery attempt at his home.
Arrested were Sean Anthony Kent, 20, 5602 Glenrock Drive, Fayetteville; Jaylen Marques McCorkle, 18, 1010 Woodcreek, Apt. 1, Fayetteville; Joseph Marquan Coverson, 17, 502 Old Farm Road, Fayetteville; and Kevin Jamille Anderson, 20, 5207 Brookfield Road, Fayetteville.
All four were charged with attempted breaking and entering and conspiracy to commit breaking and entering. Each was jailed under $25,000 bond for the felony counts.
The arrests came shortly after deputies were called to10535 Timothy Road around 10:45 a.m. Sunday.
Sampson Sheriff’s Capt. Eric Pope said deputies, dispatched to a breaking and entering call, were told that a homeowner was reportedly chasing three suspects across a field at the residence and that there was a silver car that kept driving back and forth in front of the Timothy Road home.
When deputies arrived on scene, they immediately stopped the silver Pontiac Grand Prix. Inside the vehicle were McCorkle, Coverson and Anderson. A fourth suspect, Kent, was brought to deputies by the homeowner who had detained him for the attempted break-in.
The homeowner later told officers that he was inside his home when he overhead a noise and went to investigate. When he stepped to the rear of his residence, he said he saw three suspects trying to gain entry into his home with a baseball bat. The suspects, Pope said, saw the homeowner and tried to flee on foot, but the homeowner pursued them.
The three split up in a field, running in different directions, however the homeowner was able to catch the suspect later identified as Kent.
While holding Kent, the homeowner spotted the grey vehicle driving slowly in front of his home and then witnessed the deputies stop the car.
Pope said through investigation it was determined that the three suspects in the car, as well as Kent, were involved in the breaking and entering, and all were then charged with the felonies they now face.
All four suspects are to make their first appearance in Sampson County District Court Friday.
In addition to the felonies, sheriff’s reports show that Anderson was also charged on outstanding warrants with failure to appear on charges of resisting a public officer and driving while license revoked. He was given an additional $12,500 bond for those charges.
Anderson is scheduled to appear in court on those charges Feb. 27.
