The JV Raiders powered their way to another conference win Tuesday night, defeating Pender 68-32.

The win moves Midway’s JV to 14-6 overall and 6-5 in conference play, a turnaround that coach Matthew Creech credits to hard work on the part of his team.

“I’m just so very proud of the effort this team has shown throughout the season,” Creech stressed after the game. “We started off 0-4 in the conference and because of that determination and hard work, we’ve been able to turn it around. That’s to the credit of every member of our team.”

Creech said the team’s talent had always been there, but now their effort was matching that talent.

“These guys have put forth a lot of effort to turn this season around; they bought into the team system we want and promote at Midway and it shows in the way we are now playing.”

That team effort was apparent Tuesday, as the JV Raiders rolled to an early 20-2 lead and just kept pounding away, leading at the half 38-11 and at the end of the third quarter 56-23.

“Every team member is contributing; it’s what a coach really wants to see,” Creech said.

In Tuesday’s game, Paris Smith led scoring for the JV Raiders with 21 points. Also scoring was Jamarious Baggett with 15; Shyheim Small, 8; Tyler Mayes, 6; Jackson Carr, 5; Ayden Canady, 4; Colin Warren, 2; and J.D. Lockamy, 2.

Midway travels to James Kenan Friday for a 4:30 p.m. game.
