Middle school Raider girls defeat Union

Midway Middle’s girl head into their final game of the season with another win under their belt, this one against Union Middle. Final score in the Monday afternoon game was 54-9.

The win moves the young Lady Raiders’ record to 8-3 with their next game Wednesday at Hobbton.

Midway controlled the game from the start, coming out fired up and showing it on both ends of the court. By first quarter’s end, they were up 17-2, with no sign of fatigue. In fact, the strong opening only motivated the Raider girls, who added another 12 the second quarter, while holding their opponents scoreless. Score at the break was 29-2.

The tempo was much the same in the third quarter, as Midway came back to the floor ready to play. By the end of the fourth period, they had amassed another 13 points while holding Union to 4. In the fourth, Midway scored 12 and Union 3.

Alex Canady led scoring for the young Raiders with 23 points. She also had 2 rebounds, 9 steals and 4 assists. Others contributing for Midway were: Leah Williams, 9 points, 3 rebounds, 10 steals and 5 assists; Logan Baggett, 4 points; Rachel Hodges, 4 points, 2 rebounds; Lindsay Naylor, 2 points; Madeline Royal, 2 points, 5 rebounds; Maggie Warren, 2 points, 6 rebounds; Hannah Lucas, 2 points, 4 rebounds and 4 steals; Sabria Crowell, 2 points, 4 steals; and Casey McLamb, 2 points, 2 rebounds, 2 steals and 3 assists.

For Union, G. Hope had 4 points; T. Chestnutt, 3; and C. Melvin, 2.
