This Sunday will definitely be a big day in the life of Kandid Katie. It will be the day that I will witness Mr. Clooney walked up to a podium, along with his producing partners, Grant Heslov and Ben Affleck, and receive an Academy Award for Best Picture.

Now it is not a guarantee, but I am pretty confidant the film, Argo, which came to fruition thanks to Clooney and Heslov first taking interest in a little known piece in Wired Magazine called “The Great Escape” about five years ago, will take home the honor. Upon seeing this piece, they hired screenwriter Chris Terrio to help turn it into a movie. Then, a couple of years ago, Clooney and Heslov got a call from Affleck stating that he would be interested in directing. Knowing all of the creative work that Affleck has shown in his directing, Heslov and Clooney chose to hand over the direction of the film to the Academy Award winning writer.

Having seen a good number of the films nominated this year, I am confident that Affleck’s film will take home the big award, which will be shared with Clooney and Heslov for producing it. However, I can’t say that this was my favorite. Having seen and read the book Silver Linings Playbook, I actually thought it was better than Argo. Knowing that Silver Linings Playbook is directed by David O. Russell leaves me a little queasy. Some might recall that Clooney starred in Russell’s film Three Kings, which is an excellent film, but Clooney and Russell didn’t get along. In fact, they had a fist fight over Russell’s treatment of an extra.

However, Silver Linings Playbook is just an awesome movie, but that doesn’t mean I like Russell. Having read Silver Linings Playbook during my recuperation from my kidney transplant, I was excited to see the film version of this great book, and the film didn’t disappoint, but since Russell is a Clooney hater, I will root for Argo and for Russell to go home with nothing.

I also saw Beasts of the Southern Wild and Lincoln, but my hope is still to see Argo win, and it probably will since it openly lauds Hollywood for taking part in that “Great Escape.”

Now, I know for a fact my mother nor my father will be watching the big award show. I know them. They will be in a state of slumber if and when Mr. Clooney goes to get his award. Yet, I know deep down they will also be thrilled to know Argo won. Of course if you ask my dad about it, he will look at you and say, “Yeah right.”

I can also foresee that even if Argo loses, I will be recording it on Facebook for one or two of my followers to read. Those lucky individuals reading it will sense my sadness or giddiness.

On Monday morning, I will probably be telling anyone who will listen that Mr. Clooney won or lost the big award. If you by chance run into me on Monday, you too will get the rundown of the big winners including Daniel Day Lewis for Best Actor. That would probably be the safest bet.
