Hollerin’ could be heard all over Sampson County as former title holders, friends, family and pageant buffs packed the Midway High School Auditorium on Saturday, February 23 to celebrate the crowning of the 41st Miss Spivey’s Corner. After an evening filled with great competition, Meredith Lindsey was named as Miss Spivey’s Corner 2013. Also crowned was Kaylan Dean Sinclair, Spivey’s Corner Outstanding Teen. Both of these young women were elated to be chosen among the tough competition.

Miss Spivey’s Corner 2013 is Meredith Lindsey of Garner, NC. She is the daughter of David and Jeannie Lindsay. She is a senior at North Carolina State University and is majoring in middle grades Language Arts and Social Studies. For her talent, Ms. Lindsey performed a jazz routine to “Can’t Turn You Loose “. Throughout the year she will be promoting her platform, Relay for Life. She will compete in the 76th Miss North Carolina Pageant this June with her Carolina Princess, Camden Myers by her side.

The first runner-up was Jocelyn Hunt from Raeford, NC. The second runner up was Suzanne Strange of Raleigh, NC. Ms. Lindsay tied for Swimsuit with Suzanne Strange and tied for Talent with Sheila Stringfield. Ms. Lindsay was also selected by the other contestants as Miss Congeniality.

Kaylan Dean Sinclair was chosen as this year’s Outstanding Teen. She is the daughter of Wayne and Karen Sinclair of Clinton. Ms. Sinclair is a sophomore at Hobbton High School. For her talent she wowed the audience with her vocal solo, “How Great Thou Art” . Throughout the year Ms. Sinclair will be raising awareness for her platform, “Find Your V.O.I.C.E. – Volunteer Opportunities in Communities Everywhere.” Kaylan Dean was excited to be able to share her win with her Carolina Princess, Randi Autry.

First runner-up was Vanna Prestage of Clinton. Vanna is the daughter of John and Janet Prestage. Second runner up was Brittany Cottle of Clinton and the daughter of Terry and Cindy Cottle. The congeniality winner, voted on by her peers, was Hannah Robinson of Fayetteville.

Both Meredith and Kaylan Dean look forward to representing Spivey’s Corner and all of Sampson County this year. Little Miss Queens

If you listened closely Saturday, Feb. 4, you could probably hear the “hollerin’” as excited parents, family members and friends cheered for their favorite contestants in the 2013 Spivey’s Corner Outstanding Little Miss Pageant. Eighteen beautiful young ladies, ranging in age from three to thirteen years old, competed for a spot on this year’s court. The contestants competed in required categories of private interview, fitness, on-stage question, talent, and beauty. This year’s pageant, themed “Baby” and emceed by Mary Catherine Tucker, Miss Spivey’s Corner 2012, and Ava-Taylor Mumford, Spivey’s Corner’s Outstanding Teen 2012, began as the contestants paraded on stage in the opening number with the 2012 Spivey’s Corner Outstanding Little Miss Court; Madeleine Reeves-Petite Miss, Kate Honeycutt-Little Miss, Sydney Johnson-Junior Miss, Cricinda Honeycutt-PreTeen Miss, Madelyn Pope-Young Miss, Hailey Faircloth-Ambassador, Olivia Tieman-North Carolina’s Outstanding Mini-Majestic and Tyler Albright-North Carolina’s Outstanding Pre-Teen Miss.

The Petite Miss division contestants were Kady Ruth Jones, Ella Clark and Alyssa Byrd. Ms. Jones was awarded the Photogenic award and was named the new Spivey’s Corner Outstanding Petite Miss. Ms. Clark won the Talent award and was named the new Spivey’s Corner Outstanding Mini-Majestic.

In the Little Miss division contestants were Gracin Snow, Avery Strickland and Mykenzi Cashwell. The new Spivey’s Corner Outstanding Little Miss is Mykenzi Cashwell. Gracin Snow raised the most sponsorship money and will reign as the 2013 Spivey’s Corner Outstanding Ambassador.

Competing in the Junior Miss Division was Ashlyn Wilson, Kensley Strickland, Graysan Stafford, Abigail Simmons, Destiny Whittenton, Makena Ginn and Sarah Black. Third runner-up was Sarah Black, second runner-up was Graysan Stafford, and first runner-up was Makena Ginn. Ms. Black received the award for Best Dressed. The new Spivey’s Corner Outstanding Junior Miss is Abigail Simmons.

The Pre-Teen division consisted of Alaini Baker, Maegan Byrd and Jenna Hales. Ms. Baker was chosen as the new Spivey’s Corner Outstanding Pre-Teen. Rounding out the competition was the Young Miss division. Competing was Mattie Byrd and Blythe Best. Ms. Byrd was crowned the new Spivey’s Corner Outstanding Young Miss and Ms. Best received the Interview award and was named as the new Spivey’s Corner Outstanding Majestic.

The new court is looking forward to representing Spivey’s Corner and all of Sampson County this year.
