Although February might be the shortest month of the year, it’s been an exciting month at the General Assembly. I look forward to making these next several months as exciting and positive as this one.

NOTABLE LEGISLATION:

This week I want to break this section into two categories, legislation we’ve passed and legislation that has recently been filed. If you want to learn more about these bills you can click on the bill number or visit the General Assembly website to look at all the bills we are working on right now.

PASSED

HB 19 -

An act to honor fallen heroes by strengthening the law that prohibits disorderly conduct at funeral, memorial service, or processional route.

-This bill has passed both chambers and will now head to the Governor for his signature.

SB 16 -

An act to provide that the DMV shall revoke a person’s drivers license for passing a stopped school bus.

-This bill passed the Senate this week and is now in the House for a vote.

FILED

SB 120 - Internet Access for Public Schools

SB 138 - Bible Study Elective

SB 144 - Nonprofit Grants/Increase Accountability

JOINT AGRICULTURE

AND RURAL CAUCUS:

We’ve started back the caucus from last year that includes members of both House and Senate called the Joint Agricultural and Rural Caucus. The purpose of the caucus is to discuss issues facing the agricultural and rural communities and hear from relevant leaders from across the state. Today we had Billy Ray Hall from the Rural Center and we hope to have Commissioner Troxler at one of the meetings next month.

MEETING WITH

CONSTITUENTS:

I’ve enjoyed the opportunity of meeting with my constituents in Raleigh over the past few weeks. I always enjoy the opportunity to meet with you and hear about your thoughts about what we are doing in Raleigh.
