James ‘Bob’ Parker

A funeral service for James Robert (Bob) Parker, with military honors, will be Tuesday, March 5, 2013 at 5 p.m. in the Chapel of Crumpler-Honeycutt Funeral Home with the Reverend Ray Smith officiating.

James Robert (Bob) Parker was born on May 12, 1925 in Clinton, North Carolina to James Andrew and Sophronia Parker. He graduated from Herring High School in 1942 and had begun his college career at North Carolina State University when he was drafted into the US Navy in 1944. Parker served on the naval destroyer USS Willard Keith seeing action in the Philippines, Iwo Jima and Okinawa.

Following the war, he went back to school on the GI Bill and received his degree in Electrical Engineering from the University of Miami. Parker married Evelyn Fendley in 1953. The couple had two daughters, Pamela Shay and Jama Jill. For the next 41 years, he worked with the international division of IBM working in more than 50 countries worldwide. Parker retired to Coral Gables, Florida where he lived until 2010 when he moved to Oklahoma City under the care of his daughter, Jama Jill.

He passed away peacefully on Feb. 24, 2013, surrounded by his family. James Robert Parker was predeceased by his parents and brother, Harold Parker. He is survived by his sisters, Gertrude Yount, Mary John Parker and Margaret Ann Warren, and brother, Thomas Parker; daughters, Pamela Shay Mills and Jill Parker Zizzi, and grandsons, William Parker Zizzi and Matthew Beaudoin Zizzi.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to the Disabled American Veterans (DAV), Attn: Gift Processing, P. O. Box 14301, Cincinnati, Ohio 45250-0301.
