As winter thaws and signs of spring begin to show, Sampson County’s United Way chapter is preparing for its main fundraiser of the year, and the volunteer board is taking its inspiration for the event from the produce of Sampson County’s farms and fields.
Appropriately named ‘Outstanding in Our Fields,’ the shabby chic dinner will take place Saturday, April 20, at the Prestage Hunting Lodge located in the South River Hunting Preserve near Harrells on the outskirts of Sampson County. Cocktail hour will begin at 7 p.m. with appetizers and complimentary drinks. An exquisite five course meal will follow at 8 p.m.
“We, at United Way of Sampson County, are all committed to combining our efforts for the betterment of our community as a whole. This event, ‘Outstanding in Our Fields,’ will be an opportunity to celebrate the food products that come from our farming community in Sampson County, which truly exemplifies the name “Outstanding In Our Fields” as all involved in agribusiness here really do an outstanding job of feeding the nation and the world,” shares Sherrill Allen, United Way board member. “We are excited to highlight United Way and agribusiness by having a wonderful meal for you to enjoy in anticipation that this event will both enhance our fundraising efforts and make a positive impact on the community.”
The evening will include delicious food, all which is being donated and then prepared by five talented local chefs. Patty Tarr of the Ashford Inn will prepare the hor’devoures for the cocktail hour; Alfredo DePinto of Alfredo’s Ristorante Italiano will prepare the soup and bread; Trey Cummings of Ribeye’s Steakhouse and Happy Belly Deli will prepare the salads; Joanie Babcock of Southern Exposure will prepare pork for the main course; and Debbie Valenti will prepare the desserts.
“This year’s event ‘Outstanding in Our Fields’ allows us the opportunity to show off our local chefs’ culinary talents,” says Janet Sargent, United Way board member. “It makes it extra special that they will be doing so by preparing their own unique spin on a gourmet entree from agriculture that Sampson County is known for either raising or growing. The icing on the cake is that it will all be enjoyed in a very beautiful, unique setting.”
Tickets for this highly anticipated and unique event will go on sale this Thursday, March 7. All proceeds will go to support the efforts of Sampson County’s United Way.
Nancy Carr, director of Sampson County’s United Way, shares that “this dining event will allow the United Way of Sampson County to continue our mission to improve the lives of our residents and to provide positive community impact through our partner agencies and programs.”
Only 100 tickets are being sold so members say do not wait too long to purchase yours. Seating is available for $100 per person with a limited number of VIP seats available for $125 per person.
