My name is Benito Morales, and I am a senior at Sampson Early College High School. I’m 18 years old with a sense of humor. My personality is awesome, well at least I think so. Also, I am an active student who loves to be involved in many sports. A sport to me is a way of releasing steam or pressure.

Growing up I really wasn’t into sports. While my brothers played outside, I would watch television and just be an inactive kid. But I began playing sports at my middle school when I was introduced to basketball by the Physical Education instructor. Well, let’s just say I wasn’t too good at it, but I still gave it a chance. Also, I was able to try other sports such as volleyball, softball, football, and kickball. For some reason, I have never been a big fan of soccer nor golf, but I did have the opportunity to play soccer with my father and brothers. On many occasions, we used to play soccer until it was dark. While in middle school, I was not in the best shape and didn’t exercise regularly but I managed to get involved in playing sports. By high school, I had gotten taller and lost weight. Knowing that the weight was a problem, getting rid of it had to be the solution.

Now that I am in high school I have continued to be involved in sports and I’m very good at basketball. Basketball has become my favorite sport now that I am 6 foot 3; I have the size to play. Not only that, but I am an accurate shooter. But size doesn’t matter; you have to have the skills and knowledge to anticipate your next move. I would like to play professional basketball, but my oath will be going to college and working hard at what I choose to do. Writing and basketball is what I hope to include in my studies.

Sports journalism is a critical thinking job that is helpful to many who are into knowing statistics, scores, and movements in sports. It points out the latest news and upcoming events in sports around the world. Writing sports articles requires creativity to make your topic sound interesting to the consumers. It also has to grab everyone’s attention such as Sports Illustrated Magazine does.

While doing my internship with The Sampson Independent newspaper, I hope to learn much more. Doing so much writing in school has got me involved in writing more than usual. Writing has become a hobby of mine and I want to become better at it. Writing has made a major impact on me so much that I started doing poetry and creating ways to put what I feel or think onto paper. Also, I want the reader to get an image of what it is I am writing about. Writing has developed from my strong spelling skills; I have always been pretty good at spelling. This being said ,my friend has always asked me how to spell a certain word. I’m more like his human spell-check.

Choosing to have this topic is an amazing way to start off with some credibility and experience. So I am proud to do my internship at The Sampson Independent. So far I know that working inside of the newspaper company isn’t as bad as I thought. The fact that there is plenty of kind people willing to teach me, keeps me wanting to go.
