The Union Lady Spartans hosted the Lady Dark Horses from Clinton on the softball field Wednesday evening with the Lady Spartans winning the game 2-0.

Megon Smith was sensational on the mound once again for Union. She pitched all 7 innings, allowing 0 runs and just 2 hits. She struck out 10 batters as well. She helped her cause offensively, too, going 1-3 with a single.

Jeanna Lee Strickland scored a run and stole 2 bases to go along with her base hit. Taylor Malpass went 1-2 with a run scored, and had a great night running the bases, as she stole 4.

Coach Doug Burley of Union said he was very pleased with the way his team played and backed up good pitching by playing good defense. He stated that Smith continued to be big for them, and that they needed to get better hitting the ball.

“All in all, I’m pleased with the win,” Burley stressed. “Megon did a great job on the mound for us ,and we were excellent defensively, I thought. We need to definitely get better hitting the ball, though. I’m proud of our girls, and we’ll get to work to try to get that win Friday night.”

The two Clinton hits were singles by Paige Tatum and Kristen Mason.

Union improves to 4-0 on the season, and they remain 1-0 in conference play. They are back in action at home on Friday night at 6 p.m. when conference — and county — rival Hobbton comes to call.
