The Lakewood girls’ soccer team brought home the win with a shutout against Trask at Wednesday’s game. It was rescheduled due to Tuesday’s rain.

It was a hard fought game, but the Lady Leopards came out on top with a final score of 3-0. Both teams were very competitive with great coaching.

For the Leopards, Ashton Odum scored 2 goals with 1 assist from Janay Kinlock. Kristen McGee scored 1 goal and was also assisted by Kinlock. Goalie Ryan Wuester had a shutout for the win.

“All 3 goals were scored in the first half with great defense from Trask. Janay Kinlock had great distribution on the field,” said Lakewood head coach Jennifer Wuester.

The Lady Leopards are undefeated in conference play.

Baseball

The Lakewood varsity boys almost pulled out a win at Trask, but just couldn’t move the runners past 3rd base. The Titans slipped by 3-2.

“We got the lead, 1-0. Then they tied it and went up 3-1. Then we scored to make it 3-2 and we got several runners into scoring position, but just couldn’t bring them in,” Lakewood head coach Larry Bass explained.

Jayden Herring was 2-4 at bat, hit a triple, and scored a run. Austin Tanner went 1-3 with 1 RBI; Logan Brewer was 1-3 and scored 1 run; Sam Koser was 1-3 with 1 RBI; and Garrett Hall was 1-3.

The Leopards are 0-2 in the conference and 0-4 overall so far this season.

Softball

In softball action, Lakewood couldn’t get it together and fell 17-1 against the Lady Titans.

The Leopards’ only run was scored by Bailey Dudley, who got on base with a single and came around to score on an error.

“We just didn’t show up,” a disappointed Lakewood head coach Dave Yarasheski said. “We didn’t hit the ball. We had way too many errors in the field to even be competitive.”

Lakewood is 0-2 in the conference.

The Leopards hosted county rival Midway on Thursday and stories on those games will be in Sunday’s Independent.
