No other gods before me

Exodus 20:2,3 says “ I am the LORD your God, which have brought you out of the land of Egypt, out of the house of bondage. You shall have No other gods before Me.”

I want to ask you a question this week — who or what is your god?

Now I know many will say that Jesus Christ is there God and in him they believe and trust. But be careful because you could fall in this verse where Jesus says, in Matt 15:8 “This people draw near unto Me with their mouth, and honor Me with their lips; but their heart is far from Me.”

Giving God lip serve but not serving him with your life from the sincerity within your heart isn’t right. You can go to church, shake the preacher’s hand, sing in the choir, hold a title, even preach but your heart can still be far from him. The reason this could be for some people is because they have other gods that they serve, and Satan has blinded their spiritual and natural eyes to see that they give more time, effort and energy to these gods than they do for the one and only God.

People can run here and there Monday through Saturday, hustling to get this and that done and put so much into it, but on Sundays they lay out of church or find excuses not to go at all. Anything, and I mean anything, that you place before God is your god. It could be your job, husband, wife, kids, career, money, titles, self, sports or other events, or even your reputation in the community. Yes all these and More can easily be the god that you are serving, and you may not even realize that you worship these things. In fact, I ask this — can you live without these things?

It’s God who we can’t live without. He should always be first in all of our lives. It’s easy to forget that it was God Almighty that brought you out of your Egypt, out of SIN, SHAME, and GUILT. If it had not been for God on your side, you wouldn’t have anything. God is jealousy over the fact that these things have taken his place.

Could it be that the reason why you haven’t gotten your breakthrough or your prayers answered is because you serve another god?

We are living in a world where people worship themselves and things more than they do God. In other words, their actions speak louder than the confession that they make. Jesus shares his glory with no man or things; he wants all of you and me to devote everything to him.

It’s time to start living this Christian life and not just confessing to be one to look good in the community. The day will come when God is going to be first in your life as spoken in Roman 14:11 “For it is written, as I live saith the Lord, every knee shall bow to me and every tongue shall confess to God.”

On that day, saved or unsaved, every man will put him first and worship him as the true and living God. Get your priorities in order, Jesus is coming!!!!!
