The Titans took home the win despite 2 out-of-the-park and over-the-fence home runs by the Lady Spartans in Friday night’s tie up at Trask. The final score was 13-3.
“We had a couple of errors that hurt us pretty bad, plus we’ve just got to hit the ball better as a team,” Union’s head coach Doug Burley explained.
Even though the Spartans lost, they starred in the highlight reel when Megan Smith went 2-3 and both times knocked the ball out of the park. She scored twice and had 3 RBIs. Jenna Leigh Strickland went 1-3 and scored; Lauren Preddy, 1-3; Clair Riley, 1-2; Andrea Gonzalez, 1-2; and Brianna Allen, 1-3, with a double.
Besides knocking in the 3 runs, Smith pitched the entire game and struck out 4 Titans.
The Lady Spartans are now 5-2 overall and 2-2 in the conference.
Union will host Pender on Monday to make up a rained-out game and then travel to Lakewood on Tuesday.
