ROSEBORO-SALEMBURG — Lakewood High School hosted the Midway Raiders on Tuesday evening, with Midway walking away victorious in both games.

The Lady Raiders warmed up their bats to defeat the Lady Leopards 6-2 in seven innings; the Raider baseball team defeated the Leopards 13-3 in five innings.

Lakewood had difficulty on offense as they seemed not to be able to get the ball to cooperate as they came to the plate. The Raiders shinning moment came on a grand slam home run from Chris Sanders that gave Midway added momentum as the evening went on.

Gibby Allen was the winning pitcher for the Raiders as he hurled the ball for four innings, allowing four hits, three runs, two of which were earned, two walks and struck out six. Jordan Farthing came in as relief for one inning and allowed only one hit and two walks while striking out two.

The Raiders had their bats warmed up as they pushed to end the game early in five innings as the team was able to take the 10-run advantage over Lakewood.

Leaders for Midway: Brett Godwin, 1/3, 2 runs; Gibby Allen, 1/3, 2 runs, 2 RBIs, double; Jonathan Poole, 2 runs; Anthony Horne, 3/4, 2 runs, 2 RBIs; Jordan Farthing, 2/3, 3 runs, 2 RBIs; Matt Spell, RBI; Chris Sanders, 2/4, 1 run, 5 RBIs, grand slam HR: Alex McPhail, 2/3, RBI, double.

In the girls’ game, the Lady Raiders downed the Lakewood ladies 6-2. Both teams struggled early in the game to overcome the cold. Midway, however, was able to heat up their bats in the end to pick up six runs for the victory.

“Lauren Smith was the winning pitcher for us tonight,” shared Midway softball coach Leigh Smith. “She pitched her way through a very cold night to get seven strikeouts and allowed six hits. It was a tough game tonight both physically and mentally. Lakewood is a very talented team.”

Leaders for Midway: Sierra Lee, 2 doubles, single; Kayla Page, double; Leanna Fann, 2 singles; Lauren Smith, 2 singles.

Leaders for Lakewood: Devincentis, 2 singles, 3 stolen bases; Young, 2 singles; Blair, single; C. Young, single.

Midway will host Wallace tonight with the game scheduled to start at 7:30 p.m.
