A Faison man is being sought by Clinton Police authorities after allegedly writing two bad checks worth $500 and $400, respectively, at a local grocery store.

According to reports, a man walked into Piggly Wiggly on March 21 , bought merchandise and passed two “fraudulent” checks totaling $900. The checks were labeled from “The Church of God of Prophecy,” located at 411 West Cliff St. in Wallace.

Records show that there is not a Church of God of Prophecy” located in Wallace, however, there is one in Garland.

The man, whose name is listed on the checks as Joseph Anthony Brittingham, 31 of 11412 Kenner Road, Faison, was reported to Clinton authorities late Monday when the check came back from BB&T stating that it was unable to locate an account in the name of the church for the two checks.

Investigators later discovered that Brittingham was also wanted by the Sampson County Sheriff’s Office for a case pending against him for writing fraudulent checks at a Piggly Wiggly in Roseboro.

Brittingham is also wanted by the State of Delaware for probation violation, according to the State of Delaware’s Criminal Justice website. The site also lists two other aliases — Joseph A. Chinski and Anthony J. Stewart.
