A Salemburg man was charged with three misdemeanors and placed under a $5,000 bond after Sampson County Sheriff’s officers responded to an assault call at a Bonnettsville Road residence Sunday evening.

The emergency call came from a 72-year-old woman who had been stuck in the back of the head with a chair.

Although reports state that the woman suffered “minor” injuries and was OK, the man who reportedly threw the chair at her was her son, who was taken into custody but not without a battle.

Investigators arrested and charged James Earl McLean, 46, of 529 Bonnettsville Road, Salemburg, with assault with a deadly weapon, injury to personal property and assault on a government official — all three misdemeanors.

Reports also show that alcohol/drugs may have played a part in the incident.
