Speed and good defense were the key, said Leopard coach Stephen Faircloth. The win advances the Leopard record to 3-2 and knocks the Dark Horses down one.
Carlon Cannady was the winning pitcher for the game.
“Our team stepped it up tonight,” Faircloth said. “We had a great game defensively. Not only was the team quick in the field, they were hot on the plate, connecting 10 times with hits from Jasden Herring, Seth Hewry, J.J. Tanner and Ross Strickland. Strickland came home twice, as did Herring, Andrew Kook made it home once.”
The 5-3 win was accomplished by the quick cats and their great outfield play by Ross. Leopard Garritt Hall made his debut this season on the mound and held the Dark Horses at bay.
“It was an outstanding game,” said Faircloth of the game, which ended with two Dark Horses stranded on bases. Play was “clean and collective throughout the game. And we were able to pull out the win,” commented the Leopard coach. “Overall the team played one of the best games. We lowered our errors from 10 at the last game to two. So that really made a big impact.”
The boys are now tied for second place in the conference.
Girls fall to Sampson
In a 12-2 game, the Lady Sampson Dark Horses beat the Lady Leopards from Roseboro-Salemburg. Brittany Codilly was the winning pitcher with 7 strikeouts.
Teresa Parker, coach for the lady Dark Horses, said she was happy for the win. “The girls had an awesome game. They played great defense and the offense was 85 percent better today.”
Parker also thanked her coaching staff after the game and wanted to extend gratitude to Sampson for allowing her to coach the team.
This is the best year for the ladies since 2002, as they snapped a six-year losing streak earlier this season.
