Monday, the Midway Raiders lady softball team took first place in the Super Six Conference by defeating the Union Spartans 8-2.
The winning pitcher for the game was Raider Whitney Johnson, who pitched the full game, throwing eight Spartans out. “Whitney Johnson had a triple and a single,” said Raider coach Leigh Smith.
“The girls were really pumped going into this game and you could tell by the way they hit the ball ... Union gave us so many opportunities to score.”
Six walks moved the Raiders around the bags in the seven inning showdown. Midway would make them pay, said Smith. “(They) proved detrimental for them since we were able to get those runs in.”
Batting for Midway was Karson Barnes who had 2 singles, and a single with 2 RBIs; Tiffany Hawley and Lauren Smith who singled and had each had RBIs; Leanna Fann had a triple; Christy Carr had 2 singles; and Sierra Lee had an RBI.
