But, before he did so, he reminded the residents attending that this was not a retirement celebration.
“Retirement is just not in his vocabulary,” said Hall of Poole of his 45 years in the field of law.
Hall then read through a resolution that he had the town prepare for Poole. And as he read through the resolution, Poole’s family including his wife, children and grandchildren entered the town hall to hear about their beloved husband, father and grandfather be honored.
Part of the resolution read, “The Roseboro Board of Commissioners does hereby acknowledge town attorney Billie L. Poole for his superior service, as signified by his “AV Rating” with the Bar Registry of Preeminent Lawyers, and for his outstanding service to the town of Roseboro.”
After reading through the resolution, Poole addressed the board with gratitude. “I continue to love the town of Roseboro, and I thank you from the bottom of my heart.”
The board approved the resolution unanimously.
As for his other good news, the mayor confirmed that the town residents will finally see one of two new businesses open. For one, Hall explained that Kerr Drug leaders are currently setting up the store which will be located at the Roseboro Centre on N.C. 24. And residents will finally get to shop in it on June 10 when the pharmacy opens.
In addition, he told the board that the proposed dialysis clinic has now been approved by the state. He then introduced Dr. Kent Webb, the lead nephrologist who will be in charge of the plans for the dialysis clinic.
Dr. Webb stood in the audience and stated that this was one of the easiest processes for getting state approval he has ever experienced.
“This was one of only two times where we did not have even one opposing comment ...This usually takes three times longer,” said Dr. Webb. He pointed out that the clinic will be part of the Fresenius Medical Care and will have 11 nephrologists who will take care of it and its patients.
Dr. Webb then expressed that he has currently negotiated a lease for land that will be in close proximity to the town office, located on Pleasant St.
“Now, I can successfully go to the bank and get a loan,” Dr. Webb added. He then stated that the residents can expect to see the facility open by June 30, 2010.
After Dr. Webb’s presentation, Hall, with a grin on his face, commented, “This is really some exciting news.”
The good news continued with an update from resident Teresa Powell on the Roses for Roseboro project who spoke of the dozens of places that flowers were planted, including at the town office and near the welcoming sign off of N.C. 24. Resident Rochelle Hill also addressed the board expressing her gratitude to resident Randy James for his help with planting the roses around the town.
After the residents comments, the mayor expressed that the success of this project and other projects is proof of what can be done when people work together.
