Although they have few leads, Sampson County Sheriff’s deputies are working non-stop to track down a suspect wanted in connection with an early morning shooting over the weekend that injured two local men.
The incident occurred around 3:20 a.m. Saturday morning when an unidentified person burst into “Mr. B’s” barbershop/club, located at 3762-B Roseboro Highway, just east of Peavine Road, and opened fire.
“It all happened at 3:24 a.m. Saturday morning,” said Sampson County Sheriff’s Office Capt. Eric Pope. “We were called about two gunshot victims at the emergency room — they were taken there by friends. All we knew at that time was that both men suffered multiple gunshot wounds.”
The first victim was Donald Jerome Harvey, 27, of 3377 Faison Highway, Clinton, who was airlifted to WakeMed in Raleigh. According to spokeswoman Megan McNamara, Harvey was listed in “good” condition late Tuesday afternoon.
The second victim was Michael D. Zimmerman, 22, of 218 Brantwood Court, Roseboro. Although reports state that Zimmerman was taken to Pitt Memorial Hospital, a spokeswoman said late Tuesday that “he was not listed” at the hospital. N.C. law stipulates that hospitals are not required to release patient information upon media request unless authorized by the patient.
What is known is that investigators have talked with, and continue to interview, both victims and are currently continuing the investigation.
“Right now, we do not know the circumstances surrounding the shooting,” said Pope. “We are interviewing the men and are getting everything we can from them.”
Pope also noted that, as of press time Tuesday, there is no suspect information available.
“We are investigating all leads,” he said.
