SPIVEY’S CORNER — A traffic stop Tuesday night on U.S. 421 north led to the arrest of two men and the confiscation of marijuana weighing 950 grams.

According to reports, the Sampson County Sheriff’s Criminal Interdiction Team stopped a burgundy four-door Chevrolet Impala on U.S. 421 at Spivey’s Corner about 5:30 p.m. Tuesday for what they called a routine traffic violation.

During the stop, a passenger in the vehicle jumped from the car and attempted to run on foot with two packages, however he was captured within a short distance of the vehicle. The packages contained two “bricks” of marijuana weighing 950 grams.

The driver of the vehicle, Sterling Junior Peacock, 36, of 302 Kennedy Circle, Benson, was charged with possession with intent to sell/deliver/manufacture marijuana; manufacturing marijuana; maintaining a vehicle for the sale and storage of a controlled substance; and possession of drug paraphernalia. Peacock, who has previously been convicted of drug-related charges, was placed in the Sampson County Detention Center under a $30,000 bond.

Peacock’s passenger, Donald Fitzgerald Surles, 26, of 29 Lake Tree Court, Four Oaks, was charged with possession with intent to sell/deliver/manufacture marijuana; manufacturing marijuana; possession of drug paraphernalia; and resist, delay, or obstruct a law enforcement officer. Surles was placed in the Sampson County Detention Center under a $20,000 bond. He is currently on probation for felony drug charges out of Johnston County, according to reports.

Both men will have trial dates Friday, June 12.

You might be a redneck if you spell Faircloth incorrectly (as Furcloff.) I want a new story to comment on. These are getting buried in the archives. As they say where I come from down yonder, Later Gator.

............Furcloff, Freekloff...I'm getting a headache from all this. Listening to my scanner is better entertainment than reading these comments.

Why do some people have to be so insulting? I am proud of my FURCLOFF family tree.

To all of you,

I am sorry I missed out on this interaction but I was at home. No drugs, no cops, no whiners, no name callers, just 2 FAIRCLOTHS. To answer the ?, I believe one guy was 36 and one was 26, O don't care to look it up again. And if my age was being ?, I am over 40 but under 50, a woman never tells their age. Bottom line, we can not fix the world, we can only try to make our little space in it better. So if someone got a few years off for "tattling" and someone else gets a few added for getting caught then so be it. I drove past a "shack" on my way to work, it had 4 cars in front of it with silver & black license plates and some flashing lights. Maybe that was a raid and we can all comment on it later on today when it hits the news. And , oh yeah JAFS thanks for proofreading for me while I was off line. Talk to you all later on.

You are always confrontational(whiny) when someone questions law enforcement. There never is a discussion or any debate. You get so personally offended over anything that, according to you, has nothing to do with you. As for the posting I just read, nothing was stated in a way to insult your mother. It said weened off breast milk. How is that insulting to your mother? No name calling was initiated by slowburn toward you. It stated you were whining not whiny. I said you were whiny. It stated you were bitter. I haven't said that yet, but you are bitter and very, very angry.

I'm not sure what your angle is in all of this, but I can tell you're frustrated. Please, sit back, take a deep breath and mellow out. These are just people's opinions. Stop taking things so personally. You sound whiny and bitter

There is nothing hateful or confrontational about my comment. There is not bitterness or whining. I posted a comment to the topic to yougotit and for whatever reason slowburn decides to insult both of us with ignorant name calling. You want to insult someones mother?? How old are you. Grow up and post to the topic. I am the Bully?? Grow up Mr "I have nothing to do today but insult people because I can't post an intelligent respone to the topic".

Tygun must have had this longing to be in law enforcement but could't make it pass the initial interview process. Who knows why he is bitter and whining. Maybe he was weened off his mother's breast milk late in life.

Tygun30, why are your comments always so hateful and confrontational? It's like you are the playground bully trying to pick a fight with those whom you feel are uncapable of matching you physically or intellectually. Take a chill pill.

While it may have been painful to try and read yougotit has a valid point. If someone already apprehended and facing more time decided to give this information up in order to lighten their sentences then are we really winning the war on drugs here. Yes, the drugs are off the street, that's positive, but if one already behind bars is getting charges dropped for providing a tip that lead to an arrest then we aren't really any better off than when we started. You just trade one drug dealer for another. Now the one behind bars, when he gets his slap on the wrist and gets out he has one less drug dealer to compete with on the streets.

LOL at wideopen.....I was thinking the same thing.

As usual yougotit don't got it. Its more important to worry about who got the drugs than the drugs being seized or shall I say sized... Does it really matter who seized the drugs? I am glad that they are off the street myself and will not make it to some kid. Sounds like two losers are off the streets for at least a little while, depending on the judicial system.

yougotit, were your parents siblings? Just wondering...

It was a routine stop for a traffic violation. If it was informants, the other officers in the same area would have been in on it instead of just one officer. What does it matter?? They go drugs off the street. Are you pissed because it was supposed to be coming to you? Sounds like it.
