SPIVEY’S CORNER — A traffic stop Tuesday night on U.S. 421 North led to the arrest of two men and the confiscation of marijuana weighing 950 grams.

According to reports, the Sampson County Sheriff’s Criminal Interdiction Team stopped a burgundy four-door Chevrolet Impala on U.S. 421 at Spivey’s Corner about 5:30 p.m. Tuesday for what they called a routine traffic violation.

During the stop, a passenger in the vehicle jumped from the car and attempted to run on foot with two packages, however he was captured within a short distance of the vehicle. The packages contained two “bricks” of marijuana weighing 950 grams.

The driver of the vehicle, Sterling Junior Peacock, 36, of 302 Kennedy Circle, Benson, was charged with possession with intent to sell/deliver/manufacture marijuana, manufacturing marijuana, maintaining a vehicle for the sale and storage of a controlled substance and possession of drug paraphernalia. Peacock, who has previously been convicted of drug-related charges, was placed in the Sampson County Detention Center under $30,000 bond.

Peacock’s passenger, Donald Fitzgerald Surles, 26, of 29 Lake Tree Court, Four Oaks, was charged with possession with intent to sell/deliver/manufacture marijuana, manufacturing marijuana, possession of drug paraphernalia and resist, delay or obstruct a law enforcement officer.

Surles was placed in the Sampson County Detention Center under $20,000 bond. He is currently on probation for felony drug charges out of Johnston County, according to reports.

Both men will have trial dates Friday, June 12.

The deputies making the arrest must have been in good shape physically.

" During the stop, a passenger in the vehicle jumped from the car and attempted to run on foot with two packages, however he was captured within a short distance of the vehicle"

Must have been a young, black, non-smoker that did the capturing. (they are usually pretty fast on foot)

Great job getting the drugs and these two off the street. Whether is was routine or someone setting them up.

Lets see how long it takes for my comment to go off topic with the insults and name calling.
