An anonymous citizen is offering a cash reward for information leading to the arrest and conviction of the person or persons responsible for causing extensive damage to two vehicles parked at Thornton’s Body Shop, located at 312 Issac Weeks Road in Clinton, earlier this month.

“The incident happened somewhere between the evening of Sunday, May 31 and early morning June 1,” said Sampson County Sheriff Jimmy Thornton. “The citizen’s vehicle was parked at the shop waiting for work to be done and someone drove by and threw a big rock through the window.”

According to reports, the front windshield of the vehicle was blown out, and damage to the inside of the car was to a headrest and upholstery on the back seat.

Thornton said that in addition to the citizen’s vehicle, a patrol car from the Sampson County Sheriff’s Department was also damaged during the incident.

“It was there to get painted,” he said. “When this happened, our car was hit with a rock as well.”

Reports show that the back glass of the cruiser’s window was destroyed too.

“There was also body damage to the top of the car as well,” Thornton said.

It is believed that the rocks were thrown over the fence by a vehicle that was passing by the shop.

Although surveillance footage from the incident was taken, investigators from the Sheriff’s Department are asking for help from the community with leads on the perpertrator(s) of this incident.

“Right now we have limited information on this case,” said Thornton. “We want the public to know that we need their help. If they have any information or may know who is involved, just give us a call. It is all anonymous, you don’t have to leave your name. We just want to get those responsible in this crime.”

If you have any information on this crime call 592-4141 or send a tip to cid@intrstar.net.
