Local law enforcement officials are investigating two separate weekend armed robberies — one in the city, the other in the county — from two local businesses. In both, money was taken, but in the county armed robbery, the manager of the store was assaulted but not injured.

City armed robbery

Clinton Police investigators are searching for the man who walked into the Exprezit No. 10 convenience store, located at 1311 Southwest Blvd., Clinton, pulled out a handgun and walked away with an undisclosed amount of money.

Police reports show the man walked into the store at 9:34 p.m. Friday night, showed the handgun to the 30-year-old female clerk and demanded money.

According to Clinton Police Capt. Jay Tilley, the man is described as a black male, about 5-feet, 7-inches tall. “He was wearing a black toboggan and a long-sleeved turtleneck shirt,” he said.

Tilley also said the clerk and a customer, who was in the store at the time of the robbery, were not injured in the incident.

Marathon Robbed

Investigators with the Sampson County Sheriff’s Department are currently seeking information leading to the arrest of the person or persons involved with an armed robbery that took place Sunday night at 9:30 p.m. at the Marathon Quick Stop, located at 4633 U.S. Hwy. 421 North, Clinton.

According to reports, deputies from the Sampson County Sheriff’s Office responded and discovered that the manager had been physically assaulted and robbed at gunpoint.

The manager was grabbed and held at gunpoint until he gave the suspect an undisclosed amount of cash, checks and lottery ticket money.

The victim did not receive any obvious physical injuries, the report further shows.

The suspect is described as a black male, approximately 5 feet 4 inches tall, weighing approximately 150 pounds and wearing a black shirt, black shorts, a black toboggan, and dark sunglasses. The suspect left the location in a gray Ford Focus.

Anyone with information about either of these armed robberies, is asked to call the Clinton Police Department at (910) 592-3105 or the Sampson County Sheriff’s Office at (910) 592-4141.
