This year's generous grant of $174,000 has been given to support public school teachers from some of the most economically distressed counties in North Carolina to pursue National Board certification. studies show that National Board certified teachers not only raise student achievement but also are committed to improving their schools.
“Golden LEAF is pleased to support NCCAT's work to increase the number of National Board Certified teachers,” said Golden LEAF Foundation President Dan Gerlach. “North Carolina leads the nation in National Board Certified teachers, and this investment will help make North Carolina globally competitive by improving teaching and student learning.”
NCCAT has been conducting National Board support seminars since 1998 and to date has served more than 4,500 candidates. Golden LEAF was founded in 1999, and its mission is to promote the social welfare of North Carolina's citizens.
NCCAT's main focus is a year-round series of five-day residential seminars that embrace the sciences, arts, humanities, technology, leadership, communication, and health and wellness. The center’s research-based programming is designed to renew teachers’ vitality and enthusiasm for the teaching profession and to equip them with new knowledge for the classroom.
