ED director John Swope has worked hard, preached often and touted the county well as he’s taken his own belief that Sampson is an ideal spot for such a facility on the road, convincing others along the way.
What has come from that is the I-40/I-95 Distribution-Logistics Project which, with all the mechanics in place, has the potential to lure both jobs and a significant amount of tax dollars into Sampson County, both which are needed if we are to grow and expand.
While many might argue that Swope isn’t doing enough to lure manufacturing jobs into Sampson’s borders, we would defer to his better understanding of the county’s economic offerings and the climate in which we now find ourselves.
He believes firmly that distribution is Sampson’s calling and he points to very good reasons why it is. They are facts that are difficult to dispute. From our central location along the I-40 and I-95 corridor to our close proximity to the N.C. Port Authority and the remarkable things planned for that area, it appears Sampson is in a prime spot for distribution companies to stand up and take notice of us.
Couple all that with the work Swope, the county’s Economic Development Commission and others are doing to prepare feasibility studies, site analysis and labor force reviews and it is easy to see how a potential investor could be lured into our area.
The economic homework is being done and being done well. That has to look good to corporations and their leaders. It certainly does to us, and it should to residents.
The work is being done, and the rewards could be great for our area.
While we’ve had no takers as of yet, there has apparently been — and continues to be — interest. And interest often turns into a realized dream.
We firmly believe this county is a treasure trove waiting to be mined. Those in the industrial world who’ve set down roots here will tell you they’re glad they did, and we are certain those who come behind them will feel the same way.
