The concerns presented were regarding a dispatcher position and the Full Gospel Deliverance Youth Group’s plan to hold a Back-to-School Youth Explosion. Commissioners also heard the results from last month’s meeting regarding the lights at Memorial Park burning during the daylight hours.
The first to address the board was Linda Jones, who discussed her displeasure at not being rehired as a dispatcher after an opening became available. Jones stated that she felt that her request for a meeting with the board had not been dealt with appropriately. As this was a personnel matter, the board did not make any response to Jones.
Traci Twitty returned to the board for a second time to request the support of the commissioners in Full Gospel Deliverance Church’s Back-to-School Youth Explosion, scheduled to occur at Warsaw Middle School,at 3 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 5. Twitty reminded the board that this was a youth group project for the church and it was an attempt to “reach our youth by any means necessary.”
In her plea for support, Twitty informed the board that they had received some donations from around the county and also shared that the Warsaw Police Department had agreed to provide coverage for the day’s activities and had been very helpful by providing assurances to the businesses they had contacted that the activity was a legitimate undertaking.
“We would truly like to have the board’s approval and support in this matter,” said Twitty. “Your support would help the community see how committed you are to help our young people.”
Commissioner Susan Greenhill expressed that the board had not forgotten her request and plans to act on the matter soon. Greenhill also stated that she felt the event was very worthwhile.
Twitty’s group is collecting schools supplies as well as other items to give to students at the Youth Explosion and she asked all those present talk to everyone they knew to help with this effort. She further stated that the committee had been conducting phone requests from businesses in other areas of the county and would soon begin going door-to-door visiting Warsaw businesses seeking their support.
Town manager Jason Burrell also responsed to Warsaw resident Marvin Coe’s concern from a previous meeting regarding the lights at Memorial Park. In his report, Burrell said that the town has been working to “secure” and “reconfigure” the lights located at the park so that they cannot be turned on at will, and therefore should not burn at time unauthorized by the town and, particularly, the town manager.
“We have looked at the lighting situation in detail and are working with a local electrical (company) to determine the best way to wire the lights located around the ball field, bathrooms, gymnasium, parking lot, etcetera, so that each are on their own switch and can be used individually or one another and/or as a whole if the need arises,” said Burrell.
With no others standing to address the commissioners mayor Win Batten closed the public forum.
