PLAIN VIEW — A Surry County woman was arrested on drugs and weapons charges during a routine traffic stop late Sunday, after a Sampson County sheriff’s deputy discovered drug paraphernalia, prescription drugs and a revolver in the vehicle.

Paula Michelle Meredith, 36, of 199 Casey Lane, Ararat, was charged with trafficking opium or heroin, a felony offense, as well as carrying a concealed weapon and possession of drug paraphernalia, both misdemeanors.

According to reports, at 10:30 p.m. Sunday, a 1999 Dodge Intrepid being driven by Meredith was stopped at Christmas Tree Road and Plain View Highway (U.S. 421) by sheriff’s deputy J.L. Vann.

During the course of the stop, Vann discovered numerous items in the Intrepid, including two glass crack pipes with residue on them, a Smith and Wesson .38 Special revolver with three .38 Special bullets, a small propane hand torch and a small can of butane fuel.

Reports state that there was also 12 pills of 512 Percocet, which is a prescription painkiller.

The 512 Percocet, named that because of the inscription etched on them, are a generic of the narcotic. Authorities estimated the weight of the pills at 6.6 grams.

Meredith was taken into custody and transported to the Sampson County Detention Center. Meredith was placed under $4,000 secured bond for the two misdemeanor offenses, $20,000 for the felony drug charge.

Slither? I don't think so. I'm pretty blunt and in your face with my comments.

The message was not being defensive, it is called a pre-emptive strick. From previous articles, you people slither out of the wood work.

So defensive. There's not even a posting against the sheriff's dept. yet. I'm sure the tittie babies will see this posting and say it's being critical.

It is funny that people constantly badmouth the law enforcement officers in Sampson County but they still continue to PROTECT AND SERVE. They work long hours, work in all weather conditions, severely underpaid, cussed at and under appreciated, yet continue to put their lives on the line for us. Anyone says anything about these comments needs to have their head examined.

Just an example of the FINE job the Sampson Co. Sheriffs Dept. under the leadership of Sheriff Jimmy Thornton is doing. Go to it guys and keep going till you run it all out of this area.
