Paula Michelle Meredith, 36, of 199 Casey Lane, Ararat, was charged with trafficking opium or heroin, a felony offense, as well as carrying a concealed weapon and possession of drug paraphernalia, both misdemeanors.
According to reports, at 10:30 p.m. Sunday, a 1999 Dodge Intrepid being driven by Meredith was stopped at Christmas Tree Road and Plain View Highway (U.S. 421) by sheriff’s deputy J.L. Vann.
During the course of the stop, Vann discovered numerous items in the Intrepid, including two glass crack pipes with residue on them, a Smith and Wesson .38 Special revolver with three .38 Special bullets, a small propane hand torch and a small can of butane fuel.
Reports state that there was also 12 pills of 512 Percocet, which is a prescription painkiller.
The 512 Percocet, named that because of the inscription etched on them, are a generic of the narcotic. Authorities estimated the weight of the pills at 6.6 grams.
Meredith was taken into custody and transported to the Sampson County Detention Center. Meredith was placed under $4,000 secured bond for the two misdemeanor offenses, $20,000 for the felony drug charge.
