According to reports from head coach Russell Jones, Hobbton’s junior varsity team defeated Goldsboro 8-25 and 15-25 in two sets.
“We did what we needed to do to win,” said Jones, adding that Jenna King had six quality serves, three of which were aces, putting the junior varsity Cats up 11-2 during the first game.
In the second game, Jones shared that the game was close all the way through; however, the Wildcats pulled it together, taking a lead over Goldsboro 13-20 when Bethany Knight came in with seven serves, three of which were aces.
The junior varsity record now stands undefeated at 3-0.
As for the varsity Cats, they, too, won three consecutive sets: 13-25, 18-25 and 11-25.
During the first set, Jones revealed that Sam Wilson brought Hobbton up, with five serves, resulting in five points.
Jones further highlighted Tara Bass and Emily Odom for assisting with kills.
In the second set, Jones commented that Goldsboro was actually, in his opinion, playing better at the start; however, the Wildcats came back after Wilson provided game changing serves.
“Paula Weeks served six points at the end to close it out,” Jones said.
As for the third set, Jones stated that the Hobbton team played well all the way through, highlighting Mary Warren for taking the Wildcats up nine straight points.
“Rachel Harrison had a big kill as well,” Jones concluded.
The varsity teams record also stands undefeated at 3-0.
