Pender authorities level more child sex charges against Clinton man

A 30-year-old Clinton man, who was charged with four counts of taking indecent liberties with a minor earlier this month, now is facing additional charges, this time from investigators at the Surf City Police Department.

Detective Claxton from the department issued the complaint and subsequent warrant against Paul Mitchell Autry, 30, of 1086 Barker Road, Clinton, for “indecent liberties with a child” on Aug. 19.

Sampson County Sheriff’s deputies served the warrant on Autry Wednesday. He is already being held in the Sampson County Detention Center after being charged with four counts of taking indecent liberties with a minor after an investigation that was initiated on Sunday, Aug. 9. He was arrested on Aug. 11 and placed under a $375,000 bond.

Reports show those four charges were filed after a juvenile female reportedly confided in a friend that she had been sexually assaulted by Autry in the past when she spent the night with a juvenile friend.

Investigators identified three additional juveniles who alleged that they had been fondled by Autry on several occasions and in different locations. Based on interviews conducted, investigators did not believe that full sexual intercourse occurred between the suspect and the victims. Through consultation with the District Attorney’s office, it was recommended that Autry be charged with indecent liberties with a minor and an investigation to determine if additional charges will be warranted was to continue.

Since the arrest, the Sampson County Sheriff’s Office has been coordinating investigations with law enforcement agencies from Duplin and Pender counties, where it is believed that additional sexually oriented acts on minors occurred.

The charge from the Surf City Police Department is the first one against Autry beyond Sampson County and comes with a $25,000 bond and a trail date of Sept. 4.

Prior to his arrest, Autry was serving a probationary sentence for two felony larcenies that occurred in 2005. Officials with the N.C. Department of Community Corrections assisted with the investigation and are initiating legal proceedings against Autry as well.
