Our sympathy goes out to one of my dearest friend’s family. Charlie Robinson was a man of so much wisdom and knowledge, always giving words of encouragement. His favorite song, “All my Good Days out ways my bad days, I won’t complain.” No matter how tough life was, these were some of the last words he said to me, as I sat on the bed beside him. He will be greatly missed by all who knew him.

We had a wonderful summer with lots of young volunteers, socializing with our seniors, dancing, shooting pool and just hanging out. It’s important to introduce our young to the aging population. It’s a great experience. There is such a change in these generations. We had a “Back to School Bash” on Aug. 24.The kids enjoyed hot dogs, pizza, chips, and lots of other goodies and school supplies. Thanks to the “Thomas Crowd” and all our faithful volunteers. There were 30+ kids and ,of course, “Grown Up Kids. It was fun!
I’m still waiting for some old remedies and recipes. Share them with us . I know you all got some. I will write them in if you get them to me on or before Monday morning.
I will share a few tips from my favorite magazine “Woman’s World”.
Tip 1- Smooth and soothe your skin. Fresh coffee granules are fantastic exfoliate! Mix a handful with 1-2 tbs olive oil, scrub over your body with a wash cloth, then rinse for baby soft skin
Tip 2- Keep ants out! Ant hills cropping around the house? Pour used coffee grounds around the area. Before you know it, the ant’s will be moving away.
A few weeks ago I walked outside, suddenly I was stung by a wasp.It hurt bad, and I called Mr. Claude Devane to ask for advise. He said, “grab some turpentine or vinegar”, dab on it. I did, and it did stop the pain. These home reminders are better than expensive medicine, nothing is better than Bengay, hot soup, and hot towels for sinus problems. “Tried and True”
There are still a lot of opportunities at the Garland Senior Center. We are still working on our fall classes, and we hope you all call for more information before Sept. 2. You can come out and work on your own at the sewing room, there are plenty of sewing scraps and quilting thread for everyone. There is a lot of comfort in the sewing room, you can sew, do puzzles, listen to music, or just sit back and chat with friends. You would be surprised at what community news that sewing room contains. There a lot of old timey patterns. Come on down here to make you some CULOTTES, clothes pens bags, or an apron. For the men, you can come out and shoot some pool, play cards, bridge or just come out and catch you a nap with Mr. Romie Spearman or watch the soap operas with Mr. Washington.
