The 13th annual Prestage Farms 4-H Youth Roundup was held on Saturday, Aug. 29. Eleven counties throughout the state were represented at the event. There were a total of 31 market kids, 57 market lambs, and 10 heifers. Twenty-nine of these participants were from Sampson County. The following two 4-Her’s excelled at this Cape Fear Farm Credit Sandhills Showmanship Circuit show. Heather Goodrich, daughter of William and Laura Goodrich of Clinton, won Reserve Senior Market Lamb Showmanship. Showmanship classes are judged on the individual’s ability to enhance their animal’s strength while concealing their faults. Showmanship often awards the 4-Her who has worked hard with their animal all summer in an effort to get them trained.
Heather had a first and second place in the mid-weight market lamb class. Also from Sampson County was Samantha Naylor with a first place in the lightweight market lamb class. Samantha is the daughter of David and Angie Naylor from Salemburg. Prestage Farms supported the day for the kids.
