Officers arrest Clinton man in separate thefts at shopping center

An unemployed Clinton man was arrested Monday afternoon in connection with two larcenies that took place at separate businesses inside Sampson Crossing on Sunset Avenue.

According to reports, officers from the Clinton Police Department responded to the call at 3:10 p.m. Monday and discovered that both Belk, located at 1401 Sunset Ave., and Radio Shack, located at 1351-K Sunset Ave.,had items stolen from the businesses within minutes of each other.

By 3:30 p.m. officers had a suspect in custody.

Timothy Shawn Johnson, 40, of 540 Edgar St., Clinton, was arrested and charged with two counts of larceny and taken to the Sampson County Detention Center.

According to reports, the suspect is alleged to have gone into Belk and taken two short furs by Chaps, valued at $61, and then went to Radio Shack and left with an X-Box game controller valued at $50.

Johnson, who reports allege had consumed alcohol and/or drugs, was placed under a $1,000 bond and will have a court date of Oct. 14.
