According to Hobbton’s head coach Michael Cook, the Wildcats started off the first half a lot stronger than they did the second half.
“We were able to score early, which, I think, helped to pick their heads up a little,” Cook commented after the game.
According to the coach, the Wildcats played what he called “team ball” Wednesday night, which helped to put points on the board.
As for Union, head coach David Stanley commented, “We got outplayed again. The other team had more desire to win. We have to get this fixed by Monday or we are going to be in trouble.”
As for goals in the first half, Hobbton was able to put four on the board early, Cook revealed, adding that they came off Adam Raynor, Chris Lambert, Alecsander Escalera and Blake McLamb.
Although Union was trailing in the first half, they were able to put one point on the board when Hairon Sevilla was awarded a penalty kick.
When the second half got under way, the Wildcats came out strong again, adding another point to the board, this one by Jesus Mejia.
Although Union was trailing by four in the second half, they continued to put pressure on Hobbton’s defense, however the Wildcats’ speed got the best of the Spartans, preventing all but a handful of shots.
On the offense, Hobbton was able to control the ball and communicate, giving them a large lead over Union.
And although the Spartans powerful defense were no pushover Wednesday, Hobbton’s offense used their torsos and even heads to block the defense’s clears and keep the ball in Union territory.
As the clock ticked down in the second half, both teams continued to take shots on goal, but Hobbton’s speed and agility behind the ball kept them ahead four, ending the game 5-1.
