Clinton’s Tevin Bryant takes on a Richlands defender Monday at home.
Coming back from a disappointing loss last week, the Dark Horse men’s soccer team hosted Richlands Monday, holding them 1-0 at the half and eventually sending the game into overtime where they were handed a 4-2 loss.

Although the Dark Horses were just barely conquered by Richlands, both teams came out ready to play Monday afternoon leaving a majority of the play at the midfield.

Although the Clinton varsity team has been known for putting up points fast, assistant coach Jamie Williams confirmed that in the match against Richlands, their only goal for the half was held until 15: 59 was left on the clock.

What appeared to be the problem for Clinton during the first 20 minutes of play was winning the ball on free kicks, goal kicks and corner kicks.

Also, the Dark Horses appeared to have a problem finishing their shots on goal during the first half.

Shots came off Field Palmer, Tevin Bryant and Hector Regalado and Jose Gallegos, who was the only one to get a goal in during the first half.

Defensively, Clinton appeared stronger than ever, holding Richlands from taking shots on goal; in fact, throughout the entire game they only had 7 shots compared to Clinton’s 12.

Jonathan Jacobs, Tyler Strickland, Tyler James and Will Newton were responsible for holding the back line during the first half. Blake Ellis was in goal and had three saves.

According to Williams’ report, during the second half, Richlands came back strong against the Dark Horses, sending the game into overtime with the score 2-2.

“They scored right off the bat in the second half, tying it up 1-1, and they eventually took the lead with 10 minutes left,” Williams stated, adding that Bryant was able to tie it up 2-2 with roughly 5 minutes left in the game, which sent it into the overtime.

As for overtime, Williams revealed that the Dark Horses were faced with a loss after Richlands scored once in the first 5 minutes and again off a penalty kick.
