The second set of middle school games of the season left Midway with two victories Thursday. The young Raiders were able to defeat Sampson and Union middle schools in three sets.

SMS v. MMS

The first set against Sampson and Midway was back and forth between the two teams until Midway took a five point lead over the Dark Horses, making it 8-3.

The Raiders continued to expand their lead until Sampson’s Colby Royal took the Horses up four, leaving the score 11-7, still Midway.

Midway continued with excellent serves behind the line, eventually taking the set 25-12.

The second set started off right for Midway with an ace from Morgan Tew, and continued to be a good game as the Raiders kept at least a four-point lead on Sampson throughout the game. That is until Sampson’s Susan Jones brought the Dark Horses up; however, Midway was still leading by one.

The game remained up one, down one for the Dark Horses until Midway jumped ahead 22-15 and eventually took the set 25-17.

During the third set, Sampson pulled together and was neck and neck with the Raiders, leaving them winning by only two. The score was 19-17.

Leading Midway players for the game were Ivey Parker with 12 aces; Hannah Horne with six aces; Amber Poole with five aces; and Micheala Godwin with eight aces.

UMS v. MMS

The second game between Union and Midway middle schools came out in Midway’s favor 0-3.

During the first set, Midway stared off strong again, taking a 15-2 lead over the young Spartans.

Union’s Destiny Ammons, Brianna Sellars, Carley Jones, Eva Long and Lauren Preddy were able to take the Spartans drastically up on the board, but Midway still took the game 25-22.

During the second set, Midway took another large opening lead over Union and continued to lead until they took the set 25-14.

The last set started with Midway taking only a slight lead over the Spartans, but this quickly turned into a 6-3 lead under Parker’s serving.

Although Union stuck with the Raiders throughout the set, tying it up and trailing by only one or two points, Midway eventually took it 15-12.

As for stats, Midway’s coach provided that Poole had 13 aces and four assists; Cassidy Strickland had five assists, two digs, two aces and one kill; Godwin had two assist, two kills and six digs; and Tew had eight aces, two assist and two kills.

HMS vs. RSMS

Hobbton Middle and Roseboro-Salemburg battled it out as well Thursday, but neither team’s coach called in scores and player information.
