Investigators with the Sampson County Sheriff’s Office and the Duplin County Sheriff’s Office spent the morning searching each of the county’s courthouses after a bomb threat was called in early Monday morning.

“A bomb threat was called into the Duplin County 911 center early Monday morning,” said Sampson County Sheriff’s Office Capt. Eric Pope. “The caller said that there were two bombs placed at the Duplin County Courthouse and the Sampson County Courthouse and they would both detonate at 10 a.m. this morning.”

To ensure safety, both courthouses were evacuated and searched.

Nothing was found at either location.

“I don’t know what is going on,” said one man who was evacuated at the Sampson County Courthouse Monday morning. “They haven’t told us anything — the only thing I know is that I was scheduled to be here and when I got here they said that we had to come back at 2 p.m.”

Superior Court was in session at the Sampson County Courthouse at the time of the evacuation.
