Sampson County Partners for Healthy Carolinians will hold its annual Walk Across Sampson County Day (WASC) on Saturday, Oct. 17, from 9a.m. to noon. . Walkers will receive a free water bottle and pedometer for participating! WASC day provides everyone a chance to enjoy the outdoors while burning off a few extra calories. Young and old can enjoy this event together. If you don’t have anyone to walk with, that’s OK. Head to your nearest walking trail and meet up with others that will be out improving their health. All you need to bring is is you, and a good pair of shoes. Come out anytime between 9 a.m. and 12p.m., the distance and time that you walk is completely up to you! Encourage your neighbors and family to come and join the fun. We want you to be a part of making Sampson County a healthier, more active community!

From churches to businesses to schools and even the prison, everyone is getting excited to see how many steps they can log and how many miles we as a community can walk. Last year, over 480 miles were logged at the trails and the prison. This year, we want that number to be over 500 miles! 70 to 75 percent of Sampson County’s adult population is overweight or obese, so our walking trails should be packed with people wanting to make a difference in their lives and set a positive example for the loved ones around them. So gather your people and come take part in an annual event that will actually improve your health!
