TARBORO — Mrs. Edna Walls Knox Anderson, 91, of Wilmington and a resident of Tarboro, N.C. for 67 years, died at New Hanover Medical Center in Wilmington on Saturday, Oct. 10, 2009, having sustained injuries in a fall.
Mrs. Anderson was born Aug. 22, 1918 in Wilkes County to Clarence Monroe Walls and Mary Elizabeth Vanhoy Walls, she left the North Carolina mountains for the first time in 1939 when she married John Arthur Knox and moved to Tarboro where they raised five children. A buyer and assistant manager for Belk-Tyler for many years, she was a member of the Order of Eastern Star and also an active member of the First Baptist Church in Tarboro where she taught Sunday School, was a GA Leader and sang in the Chancel Choir for over 65 years.
She was preceded in death by her siblings Lawrence Walls and Margie Walls of Elkin; her husbands, John Arthur “Goat” Knox and George Allen “Bo” Anderson in 1959 and 1998 respectively; and by her daughter Mary Elizabeth Knox Denton in 1999.
Mrs. Anderson survived by daughters, Ellen Knox Tew of Clinton; Linda Knox Tufts of Pinehurst; Sara Knox and her husband, Steve Unrein of Tarboro; and a son, Walter and wife, Constance Knox, of Wilmington, with whom she lived the past four years; also by grandchildren, Mike Tew, Ann Lawrence and husband,, Charles Jones, Patrick and wife, Yadi Unrein, Sally Unrein and Katie Knox; and great-grandchildren, Watson Jones, Ian Tew and Anya Unrein.
The family will receive visitors at the home of Sara and Steve Unrein, 1910 Bingham Drive, Tarboro on Tuesday evening from 6 to 8 p.m. A family grave side service will be held Wednesday, Oct. 14, 2009, at Edgecombe Memorial Park, followed by a Memorial Service at First Baptist Church, Main Street, Tarboro, at 1 p.m.

Mildred R. Taylor, 77
SPRINGFIELD, VA. — Mrs. Mildred Royals Taylor, 77, formerly of Newton Grove, died Saturday, Oct. 10, 2009, at Betsy Johnson Regional Hospital. The Sampson County native was the daughter of the late James Marion and Ethel Westbrook Royals. She was preceded in death by her husband, Richard Hobson Taylor; two brothers, Thomas Ervin Royals and James Francis Royals. She retired from the Army Corps of Engineers.
A funeral mass will be held 11 a.m., Tuesday, Oct. 13 at Our Lady of Guadalupe by Father Patrick Keane. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
She is survived by a son, Richie J. Taylor; a daughter, Terri J. Taylor, both of South Riding, Va., a sister, Teresa R. Jones and husband Chester, of Newton Grove; a sister-in-law, Betty Royals of Clinton; a granddaughter, Kendall Novak, and several nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends Monday, Oct. 12, from 6:30 until 8 p.m. with a rosary at 6 p.m., at Skinner & Smith Funeral Home.

GARLAND — Mrs. Louise C. Hill, 91, of Clinton St., died Saturday, Oct. 10, 2009 at Sampson Regional Medical Center.

Marjorie T. Warren, 80
ROSEBORO—Mrs. Marjorie Thompson Warren, 80, of 2000 Straw Pond School Road, died Sunday, Oct. 11, 2009, at her home.
The funeral will be 3 p.m., Wednesday, Oct.14, at Mt. Elam Baptist Church, Roseboro, with the Rev. W.H. Calcutt and the Rev. Randy Moore officiating. Interment will be in the church cemetery.
Marjorie was a native of Wilson County, and was the daughter of the late James. H. Thompson and Sallie Bass Thompson, and the widow of Marshall G. Warren. She was preceded in death by sister, Faye Williams; brothers, Joe and Walton Thompson; half-sisters Grace Raper, Ruby Proctor, Pattie Morgan; half-brother Clement Lucas, and great-grandchild, Eric Warren.
Marjorie was a member of Mt. Elam Baptist Church where she was a Sunday School teacher and choir member for many years. She was also a member of the Just-A-Mere Garden Club, Eastern Star, Christian Women's Club and the Red Hat Society and was a former 4-H Club leader. After retiring as a teacher from the Cumberland County school system, she owned and operated Warren's Greenhouses and Nursery with her husband.
Surviving are two sons, Michael Warren and wife, Janet, Marshall Warren and wife, Dana; grandchildren, Patrick Warren, Graham Warren, Lindsey Warren and Cole Warren; and great-grandchildren, Grady Warren and Ainsley Warren.
The family would like to express their gratitude to the staff of Community Home Care and Hospice and a special thanks to longtime caregivers, Mary Jane Jones and Lorraine Jordan, and more recently Christy Tillman, Delphia Pierce and Pansy Owens.

RALEIGH — Edward Lamar Bullard, 73, passed away Saturday, Oct. 10, 2009.
The funeral service will be held at 11:30 a.m. Wednesday, Oct. 14, at Carolina Pines Baptist Church. Interment will follow in Montlawn Memorial Park.
The family will receive friends at the church from 10:30 – 11:30 a.m. prior to the service.
A native of Sampson County, Lamar was the son of the late George Thomas and Esther Gilchrist Bullard. Mr. Bullard retired in 1995 from the State of North Carolina as a computer operations manager with over 30 years of service. He was preceded in death by his brother, Thomas Allen Bullard; a nephew, Gary Bullard, a precious niece, Lynette Hairr; and a special aunt, Mannie Carden.
He is survived by his wife, Betty Jewell Nunnery Bullard; a son, Troy Lamar Bullard and his wife, Jennifer Shofner Bullard, and his beloved grandchildren, Olivia Jewell Bullard and Johnathon Shofner Bullard, all of Four Oaks. Also surviving are his sister, Mary Elizabeth Hairr and her husband, Homer, of Salemburg; brother, Amos Murray Bu llard and his wife, Betty Lou, of Autryville; sister in-law, Betty Clara Spell Bullard; and many loving nieces and nephews.
