The first set of games was between the Dark Horses and the Raiders, where Midway pulled a victory 1-2.
Although Midway defeated Sampson in the second and third sets, it was the Dark Horses who pulled the first win.
Midway’s Hannah Horne was able to bring the Raiders up to a 3-5 lead after trailing by two for the first few rotations, but Sampson’s Maggie Wells was able to take the Horses up 9-6, with four aces during her rotation.
The game quickly turned into a nail-bitter with both teams battling it out on the board, but Sampson was able to pull ahead 17-13 with the help of Katelyn O’Neal and Megan Wrench behind the line.
With an 18-14 lead, Sampson’s Susan Jones took the Horses to a 21-15 lead, leaving Tori Tyndall and Wells that chance to take the win 25-17.
According to reports from Sampson’s head coach Heather Rose, Midway took the next two sets 20-25 and 24-26.
“(Hannah) Horne carried the Raiders to a win in the second and third set,” Midway’s head coach Tracy Wrench commented, adding that Horne had nine aces in these games.
Caroline Pate had five aces and Amber Poole had seven aces.
Rose also provided that Midway routed Hobbton 9-25 and 12-25.
“Hannah carried the team again,” Wrench shared, adding that Ivey Parker had 12 aces; Poole had seven aces; and Jessica Ammons had three aces.
Following the Wildcat and Raider game, Sampson geared up to take on Hobbton, where, Rose reported, they were victorious 2-0 with the scores 25-16 and 25-19.
