Although both the middle school teams lacked goals during the first half, they dominated on the field, executing good communication and ball control in the midfield.
Coming back into the second half with a win on their minds, Sampson Middle took charge in the last 30 minutes of play.
The first score for the Dark Horses would come off an indirect kick just outside the box by Jose Aguilar. The score was a low kick to the right of the goal keeper.
Midway attempted to answer Sampson’s goal with two shots immediately following, but they were unsuccessful.
The Raiders were able to knock one in with 24:13 on the clock. The goal would come off Jonathan Garcia and Armando Herrera, with a low kick to the left of the keeper.
The game was anything but slow, moving from this point on, with break away attempts occurring frequently for both teams, presenting both Sampson and Midway a chance to take the lead.
The Dark Horses were able to step ahead of the Raiders after a corner kick by Wyman Faison was headed in by Aguilar.
Sampson’s Eric Bradshaw, Faison, Aguilar, Evan Henderson and Brad Faircloth continued to pursue the Raiders goal, but the game ended 2-1 and in Sampson’s favor.
