Thomas Carl Hicks, 42, of 1898 Carry Bridge Road, Autryville, was traveling on Old Peniel Church Road towards Carry Bridge Road Saturday around 8 p.m. on his 2007 Harley Davidson motorcycle. According to reports from the N.C. Highway Patrol, Hicks hit a curve going approximately 65 mph, crossed the centerline, traveled off the road to the left and flipped the motorcycle.
Hicks was immediately airlifted to New Hanover Regional Medical Center in Wilmington and was still there Monday morning. A condition report was not available at press time.
Trooper E.T. Brown noted in his report that the crash scene was “compromised” due to the fact that the bike had been moved off the roadway prior to his arrival.
According to reports, damage to the Harley Davidson was estimated at $5,000. Hicks was charged with driving while under the influence and reckless driving.
